The making of a Guardian
I don't just paint. I listen.
Every Guardian begins with a feeling before it becomes an image. I don't always know who they are for while I'm painting. I simply follow the quiet thread until they begin to reveal themselves
I paint guardians because I know what it's like to need one. As a little girl I longed for something that felt steady, protective, and quietly on my side. These paintings grew from that longing and from the belief that imagination can open doors to places we sometimes forget are there.
When a painting is finished I often feel like I've met someone rather than made something. Over time I've watched people recognize the guardian that somehow feels like it was waiting for them all along.
Perhaps recognition is remembering something your heart already knew.
